This week, Senator Harry Reid blocked the bipartisan defense appropriations bill — critical funding for our troops — for a sixth time this Congress. The move by Reid follows news reports about an Obama Administration plan to play partisan games with national security in order to advance its political agenda. (Politico, Sept. 6, 2016)

The DoD memo and Reid’s own comments on the Senate floor, make it clear Democrats are not negotiating in good faith and are cynically holding troop funding hostage.

“Harry Reid’s toxic partisan politics continue to be a primary driver of dysfunction in Washington and now he wants to pass the torch to Catherine Cortez Masto to carry on his shameful legacy. Nevadans deserve a senator who will make the safety and security of the American people a top priority. On issue after issue, Catherine Cortez Masto has shown her loyalties lie not with the safety of Nevadans, but with her own political interests. Now she is refusing to say whether blocking military funding is a good idea given the threats we face at home and abroad. This fall, Nevadans can put an end to these political games, by saying no to Harry Reid and his handpicked candidate Catherine Cortez Masto,” said Joe Heck, the Republican candidate to replace Reid in the U.S. Senate.

Nevadans want to know: Does Catherine Cortez Masto think that blocking critical funding for our military, continuing to blindly support the Iran nuclear deal, and “opening ourselves up” to asylum seekers from the Middle East with no effective way to vet them is in the best interest of our national security?

Unfortunately, Nevadans already have her answer: “Senator Reid is going to leave an incredible legacy for the state of Nevada, and I’m honored to have his support,” said Cortez Masto to the Washington Post, July 16, 2016.

Reid, who said he has a “proprietary interest” in his senate seat also told the New York Times “I am going to do everything I can do to prevail, to help her (Cortez Masto) prevail.”
