“Catherine Cortez Masto indicted my father, who was an innocent man, in order to save Harry Reid’s political career”
Today, the Joe Heck for U.S. Senate campaign released a new television ad featuring Kate Krolicki, the daughter of former Nevada Lieutenant Governor Brian Krolicki, who Catherine Cortez Masto indicted on felony charges a judge later ruled were “without merit or otherwise not properly before the court.” Cortez Masto took the action after Krolicki expressed an interest in challenging Sen. Harry Reid.
“Eighteen-year-old Kate Krolicki still has wounds from when she was 10 years old. Catherine Cortez Masto never apologized or showed even an ounce of empathy for the family she tried to destroy. Today, Cortez Masto is being rewarded for this abuse of power by the man who benefitted – Harry Reid,” said Heck spokesperson Brian Baluta. “Cortez Masto’s actions were a blatant quid pro quo and the dictionary definition of corruption. How can Nevadans trust her with even more power?”

Kate Krolicki: When I think about Catherine Cortez Masto, I think about all the things she did to me and my family.
Catherine Cortez Masto indicted my father, who was an innocent man, in order to save Harry Reid’s political career.
I mean, I didn’t understand what was going on. What I did understand was, my dad might have missed me growing up.
Catherine Cortez Masto was willing to hurt me and my sisters and my family for her own political gain.

What media said about Cortez Masto’s indictment of Krolicki:
“A clumsy, amateurish effort,” “pretty flimsy stuff,” and “strange and ill conceived.”
(Las Vegas Review-Journal, Editorial, December 8, 2009)
“Court’s dismissal of case against Krolicki left her painted as a partisan bully.” “…appeared to be hyperpartisan.”
(J. Patrick Coolican, Las Vegas Sun, December 11, 2009)
“The state’s top law enforcement officer, an elected Democrat, was trying to obtain multiple felony convictions against Nevada’s second-ranking Republican, and she was invisible.”
“District Judge Valerie Adair, like everyone else, couldn’t make heads or tails of it all. She ridiculed the indictment supporting the charges as totally lacking in evidence that any crimes were committed…”
“Her indictment had been deemed unworthy of a second-year law student…”
“Only one thing was accomplished in this ordeal: Brian Krolicki is no longer planning to challenge Democratic patriarch Harry Reid.”
(Glenn Cook, Las Vegas Review-Journal, December 13, 2009)
“Masto’s competence has been thrown into question… She is undoubtedly weaker and less regarded than she was before the Adair decision.”
(Mac Dinneen, Reno Examiner, December 11, 2009)
“The timing of the indictment — not long after Krolicki announced his interest in challenging U.S. Sen. Harry Reid - could not have been worse. And Cortez Masto’s failure to prosecute former Nevada Agency for Nuclear Projects chief Bob Loux - who re-allocated legislatively approved salary money from a vacant position to give himself and his co-workers raises - only adds to notions of selective prosecution.”
(Steve Sebelius, Las Vegas CityLife, December 8, 2009)
“Her competence has to be questioned. Her political and legal judgment has to be questioned. I just don’t have a good explanation for it. It is hard to swallow there was no political motivation in this legal travesty.”
(UNR professor Eric Herzik, Las Vegas Review-Journal, December 11, 2009)
“From a perception perspective, husband Paul Masto’s recent decision to hold a fundraiser for lieutenant governor hopeful Robert Randazzo was a killer for the AG.”
(John Smith, Las Vegas Review-Journal, December 11, 2009)
“Masto, long considered a rising star, has been brought low of late amid charges that she pursed a politically motivated investigation into Lt. Gov. Brian Krolicki.”
(The Washington Post, January 11, 2010)
“The perception is even worse for an attorney general who indicted a GOP lieutenant governor for financial mismanagement, but never alleged he enriched himself — as Arberry did — before the case fell apart. Many will argue Cortez Masto was willing to go to the wall for a lesser offense against a Republican while letting an outrageous crime by a Democrat go virtually unpunished.”
“The message here is atrocious: Different standards for politicians, different standards for Democrats, different standards for Nevada.”
(Jon Ralston, Las Vegas Sun, October 23, 2011)
